Let’s Debate

Setting a Higher Bar for Transparency and Accountability

As a co-owner of unit 7908 at 175 E. Delaware Pl, I’m deeply concerned about the direction our Association is heading. Decisions seem to be made by a select few, with little regard for the legal and financial risks those choices create for all of us. This is why I am publicly challenging Scott Timmerman to a town-hall style debate. The debate would allow owners to ask direct questions and get transparent answers from both of us before the upcoming board election because owners deserve to be informed and confident in the decisions being made on their behalf.

Brought to you by Drew McManus, your neighbor in 7908.

What follows is a transcript of a speech I delivered to the HOA Board before the August 18, 2025 meeting, during the Owners’ Forum segment.

I’m Drew McManus, a co-owner of unit 7908.

Thank you for listening to all the owner concerns raised tonight. It seems to me their collective message reveals a reality where decisions are being driven by a select few, with little regard for the legal or financial risks those choices create for the Association.

What links many of these issues is a pattern of behavior that practically invites lawsuits against our Association.

Since my time as a board member, I’ve seen this shift firsthand: owners who raise valid questions get hand-waving replies or have their motives questioned.

And when that tone shows up in official channels like the monthly newsletter, it’s a character attack that crosses from poor judgment into exposing the Association to serious legal liability.

What we have to remember is our association is a multi-million dollar corporation. Board leadership isn’t about keeping things comfortable, it’s about safeguarding transparency and being accountable.

That’s why, in the spirit of open dialogue and to ensure owners can make truly informed decisions for the upcoming board election, I want to invite Scott Timmerman to a town-hall style debate with me, right here in Club 44.

The format will be simple: owners ask questions and receive direct, transparent answers from both candidates. To ensure all voices can be heard, we can easily provide a Zoom link for those unable to attend and accept questions in advance via email. Perhaps most importantly, I’m confident we can agree on a mutually acceptable moderator.

Any other logistical questions are just that: questions with answers. All that’s left is confirming the date and time. I am happy to meet in the 44th lobby or discuss via email to finalize the details so we can announce to owners by September 1st.

Ultimately, this is about setting a higher bar for transparency and accountability than what we experience today. Owners deserve to be informed, acknowledged, and confident in the decisions being made on their behalf. So, I’ve issued the invitation. Now, it’s up to Scott to accept it.

Thank you all for taking the time to listen.
